ClubInvest Stock Market Investment Course
Introduction
The course aims to cover in a new, innovative and comprehensive way the main factors that could control the price of a company stock. As your knowledge builds we are aiming for you to be able to understand about stocks, the economy they are in, predict their future and calculate their buy and sell price. Members will over the duration of the course analyse particular stocks in detail and will hopefully reach a standard that shows they can analyse stocks and be able to complete the optional examination. The course is set in the particular current financial environment, aiming to be relevant and uses examples from either the Australian or the US economy to teach the concepts.
Purpose & Goals
- Develops a structure for people to learn to their potential, managing their own learning to a standard for them to be regarded as having a functional knowledge of the stock-market.
- Have a scientific basis for stock-market investment decisions with understanding from broad key, macro, fundamental and technical analysis factors.
- Provide regular feedback and assessment according to their needs and abilities.
- For people to work together to understand and obtain information.
- To use technology to suit each individual learner.
Structure
There are approximately 50 key foundational topics/lessons which are offered as Distance Ed online, a group lesson or individually at your level. Course could be taken over a year with one lesson per week or more intensive with one lesson per day (weekday) covering the course in 10 weeks. The times given for each lesson are a guide and can be changed to suit the individual. The course is suitable for all learners with a learning sequence, materials and time adjusted to suit all individuals.
Currently the course is free with members being encouraged to make donations with information for this being in the footer on the homepage.
Strategy
Early on in the course you individually or as a group are assigned a number of BUY opportunities which you will analyse by relating the course material to your allocated stocks.
The teacher of the course is the “fund manager” and you are the analyst to help him make decisions on whether to include these stocks in his “fund.” You present your analysis in the form of a UPP statement which stands for Understanding, Prediction and Price. A UPP would include a thorough understanding of Macro factors, the relevant sector, Fundamental Analysis, Technical Analysis and price. There is also an aeroplane theme where the buying of a stock is likened to flying a plane. Have you checked the weather(economy)? What type (sector) of plane are you flying? Have you looked under the hood (Fundamental Analysis)? Have you done your pre-flight check (Technical Analysis)?
Outcomes
- Explain the drivers of the economy
- Analyse the sectors and ETF’s of the stock-market
- Explain and apply Fundamental and Technical Analysis when evaluating stocks
- Identify and access the key information needed to evaluate particular stocks
- Evaluate other people’s investment decisions and determine if you agree with them.
- Understand personal attitudes (psychology) and background information on investing in the stock market.
